Pauliina Syrjälä has become known particularly as a revitalizer, researcher, and creative artist working within the tradition of playing the kantele with a stick. She currently serves as a lecturer in folk music at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki, where her artistic work has always been intertwined with teaching. In recent years, a significant demonstration of her strength has been the completion of her artistic doctoral degree in 2020, which included five diverse concert series.
Pauliina Syrjälä takes tradition as a starting point and a source of inspiration in collaboration with Tallari. The concert highlights the richness of the stick playing tradition from the repertoire of various musicians such as Arvi Pokela and Salomo Korhonen, while also exploring what contemporary musicians can create using the stick playing style. “I’m very interested in different tonal colors, and I’m eagerly looking forward to exploring and discovering them together with the members of Tallari.”
