Visual Artist Anu Välitalo’s Art Workshop at Juminkeko

Visual artist Anu Välitalo will lead an open art workshop at Juminkeko. In the workshop, participants will draw and paint on wood and plywood using stencils and pyrography tools, creating folk-inspired entities and plants inspired by the 2025 theme, “forest.” The characters and plants created by participants will form a large, living landscape, which will be turned into Sommelo’s final exhibition in 2026. Participants may leave their works in storage for inclusion in the 2026 exhibition.

Anu Välitalo has designed Sommelo’s visual identity. She previously held the Worlds in the Making drawing and sculpture exhibition at Juminkeko. Välitalo draws, prepares wooden drawing surfaces, creates animations and illustrations, and teaches art and visual design at universities. She also plays music in a wind orchestra and enjoys combining music with visual art.
