The nearest railway station is in Kajaani. Several bus services operate daily between Kajaani and Kuhmo. For information, schedules, ticket sales, and additional details, you can visit the VR website or contact travel agencies. Bus connections to Kuhmo can be found on the Matkahuolto website.

By car
If you are coming from the south, the shortest route to Kuhmo is through Nurmes via Highway 75. You can also reach Kuhmo via Kajaani by taking Highway 5 to Kajaani and then Highway 76 to Kuhmo. From the Oulu direction, the shortest route is through Paltamo and Kontiomäki to Kaitainsalmi, and from there, take the northern road to Kuhmo.
