In Oskari Lehtonen’s solo concert, audiences will experience percussion music inspired by Nordic folk traditions. The electro-acoustic performance includes polska and kantele improvisations from the perspective of a percussionist. At times, the music may seem to stray far from folk music into various soundscapes and polyrhythmic worlds, but at its core lies a deep love for Nordic folk music and its rich rhythms.
Oskari Lehtonen is one of Finland’s most respected folk percussionists. For years, he has been active in numerous leading ensembles, including Okra Playground, Pauanne, Snekka, and Siba Folk Big Band. In 2023, Lehtonen released the solo album “Roihu,” which serves as a cross-section of Nordic folk percussionism.
“…with his solo album, he more clearly demonstrates both his virtuosity and how captivating music predominantly realized with drums and percussion can be… After listening, one feels as if awakened from a shamanistic trance. More of this, please.”
