Kymmenkieli is a duo that gets the feet moving with swinging contemporary folk music!

Kymmenkieli takes the listener on a journey of ten dances into the world of folk music. During the journey, we’ll be immersed in a summer evening atmosphere, pause by the traditional music, and end up in the whirlwind of wild dancing. There’s no treasure at the end of the journey, only the impatient anticipation of future adventures.

Musicians Viive Virtanen (violin) and Carolina Stenbäck (cello) offer traditional folk music as well as self-composed music inspired by it with their unique Kymmenkieli sound. The combined rich tone of the violin and cello forms the musical world of Kymmenkieli, where catchy violin melodies, lush cello accompaniment, and playing with the different roles of these instruments rejoice.

This Helsinki-based folk music duo was founded from a shared dream – to play instruments with five strings. In early 2024, the dream came true when Kymmenkieli acquired the two missing strings.
